VOLUNTEER COUNSELLING

How we work
Off The Record holds the welfare of our young clients first and foremost. As part of this, we provide a supportive environment for our counsellors, in which we value and promote good team working, good communications, and an atmosphere of openness and respect.

•  Off The Record has a team of approximately 20 volunteer counsellors, from a wide variety of backgrounds, mainly but not exclusively humanistic

•  We recruit new counsellors as necessary, through an application process and interview. This takes place approximately once a year or so

•  Most counsellors will work on OTR's premises, but some will work in schools or other outreach sites in the borough, such as youth centres

What we offer
•  We provide an initial Induction Training covering issues relevant to counselling young people. We also provide ongoing training days throughout the year
•  We offer one hour a month of individual supervision with an OTR supervisor
What we ask from counsellors

•  Counsellors are expected to have gained, or be in the final year of gaining, an appropriate counselling qualification, preferably on a BACP accredited course

•  We ask counsellors to commit for one year to a weekly 2-hour session, seeing 2 clients for formal appointment-based counselling, open-ended

•  We require an Enhanced Disclosure certificate from the CRB before accepting any counsellors

How to apply
•  You are welcome to phone us at any time to enquire about our volunteer recruitment

•  If you prefer, you can write with your name and contact details (plus what level of training you have reached), and we will contact you on our next recruitment
